V8 Supercars Race Driver will be available for PlayStation 2 very soon and I hear there's an Xbox version on the way, too. It is incredibly fast, playable, has great sound, is genuinely easy on the eye and comes with a storyline that is easily better than Days of Thunder. I've only played the early code so far but it is already obvious V8 Supercars Race Driver is one of the top racing games around. Players can experience Bathurst's winding hill track on Mt Panorama, Silverstone, Monza and the hallowed tracks of Europe. There is a good and varied selection of courses from all over the globe. V8 fans are spoiled with a selection of 48 cars, including Holdens and Fords - all the major teams except for HSV (who signed with EA) are represented. The other half is surviving for the duration of the race - if you go off or hit a barrier you can do serious damage that will affect the vehicle's performance so it is important to keep your nose clean. The super aggressive AI drivers won't hesitate to put you into a wall if they get the chance, but braking and picking good lines to avoid them is only half the battle. Once you start winning a few races, Ryan will begin gaining attention - new managers will even try to poach him for rival teams, offering better contracts, cars and prime driving spots. This Batman-like back story sets up the plot and as it turns out, the need for retribution can be a highly motivating factor while you're on the track. Codemasters have created the character Ryan McKane, a rookie driver who witnesses the pre-rendered crash and fiery death of his race driver dad during the flashback opening sequence. Unlike other racing titles, V8 Supercars Race Driver features an evolving storyline with cinematic FMVs preceding and after every race. This latest racer blends all the realism and speed of a TOCA title with the picturesque beauty of Gran Turismo 3. TOCA games are always very playable but also ruthlessly accurate. V8 Supercars Race Driver is their first effort for the PS2 and it's more or less perfect. In addition to racing against the computer players, you can also race against a friend using a split screen mode.By JON MINIFIE (Herald rating: * * * * * ) British developers Codemasters were behind the popular Colin McRae Rally titles and the acclaimed TOCA Touring Car series on the original PlayStation. All cars also leave skid marks and craters when they explode, which means that the track looks quite battle worn at the end of a race. Though the game is an arcade racer, the cars behave somewhat realistically, with power-slides in corners and spin-outs when crashing (which is new to this game). The core of the game, the race itself, takes place on various road courses with tunnels, jumps, railway crossings and gates that open and close. In addition several special events with similar mini-games as with the car dealer will appear between each race in the management mode (and there are several new events compared to the last game). Some weapons have changed from the last game, and you now also have a button to select which weapon to fire while racing. Prices vary between races, so there is a chance to gain money by using the weapons as commodities and trading with them. Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000: Nearing its 60 th year, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is a thousand-kilometer dash over 161 laps around Mount. Weapons and armor can also be purchased between each race, as well as repairing any damage you have sustained. iRacing costs a subscription plus money for the tracks and car fairly active racers, but you have to plan on certain times to get a good race, and you can race. Real Racing 3 travels to Bathurst, Australia Jump in the driver’s seat of your favorite supercars and take part in what fans and followers have dubbed, The Great Race. Each new car can carry more weapons and armor, and is also faster. This is done at a car dealer between each race, using a mini-game with different chat options to try to bring down the price. If you are running a season using the “full” option, which means including the management portion, you have to buy your own cars to race with. All the 21 tracks seems to have been lifted from the previous title, but here you can choose the amount of laps and also race them in reverse. The game lets you compete in three built-in seasons (easy, medium, hard) but also lets you customize your own seasons. The game is basically a re-make of Super Cars II, with added elements, tweaked gameplay, updated 256-color VGA graphics and a new soundtrack. As always, there is also a management portion available in the game (which is optional). This is the third game in the Super Cars series of top-down view, arcade racing games from Magnetic Fields.
