Finally, the number of adults available to help pitch the tent should also be considered, as it's here that Airbeam style tents really come into their own. Take a look at the Decathlon range of air tents available in store and online.Up to 365 day returns. Having option compartments is also an important consideration if the whole family doesn't always come on every trip. Inflatable tents take the stress out of tent pitching. Also, features like the Skytrack attachments can make the space more flexible to use. How much space you need? How many of you there are? However, you should also consider whether luggage space would be a benefit, like with the Verona Air I tested. But it was the easier pitching that really made the difference as we arrived with children eager to go and see the bands and arts available on our site.Ĭhoosing the right inflatable tent for your family depends on a common set of camping criteria. The festival was a success and the tent served us well I think. Looking at more traditional options, the Airbeam approach gave us a better space-to-weight ratio. The final weight saving option were the Mircolite chairs that took a bit more assembling but were light enough for the children to carry. We also decided to leave our usual bedding behind and opt for inflatable memory pillows and sleeping bags. These tubes are commonly known as air beams, as the first inflatable tents for camping were brought to the market by Vangocreator of the popular AirBeam tent line. It made the work of pitching much easier. We used the Verona Air for a festival trip. You should also fold and role the tent up so that the air is squeezed towards to valve which can be released as you go. It's a snug fit, but once put away is relatively compact. By getting the kids to help with this process, I was able to get it in the back on the first attempt. When deflating it's important that you get the air completely out of each of the Airbeams. Putting these Airbeam tents away neatly is a bit of an art. This offers a good way to get in and out of the tent if it's wet, without having to open up the main compartment at the front. It also meant that the tent back was less likely to come into contact with the inner when it was windy.Īnother welcome addition is the side entrance with rain cover. This meant it was easier to keep the bedrooms free from clutter and utilised this often wasted space at the back of the tent nicely. What I particularly liked in this year's design is that these bedrooms open at the rear to reveal a space for bags and luggage. It's basically a poled tent, but instead of aluminum poles running through the fabric providing structure, it's a 5 inch diameter tube that you inflate that provides the structure. At the rear of the tent are the main bedroom compartments which are generous enough for two adults in each. You'd have to tape it and hope it holds, or replace it. You'd basically be in the same spot if you snapped a pole on your poled tent. You could puncture it, but you'd have to want to. I am not concerned about accidental punctures. ![]() They are pretty thick TPU bladders, kind of like a tire inner tube. Since you haven't seen one in person, it is worth mentioning that the poles themselves are not like an inflatable mattress or something flimsy. Well, in my tent there are three air poles that are not connected together, so if one should fail, you'd for sure have some issues, but it wouldn't be catastrophic, even if, you can patch it with something like tenacious tape, and can usually order replacement poles from the manufacturer (which admittedly could be a problem for me). I was thinking about this yesterday and was curious was the general opinion is. Has no one thought of this? Is there just no interest in it? Even though most of the air tents have to be guyed, they are incredibly stable once setup, and they setup fast! US users, would you use this type of tent, or UK users who have used a tent like this, am I just being a fanboy? ![]() In the end, I bought a NEMO Aurora for to replace my 15 year old, aging, and leaking Eureka Pinnacle Pass, and looking over the new features new tents have, I still don't see any manufacturers in the US using air poles like in those UK tents. With the recent REI sale, I was looked at the current crop of tents to see what is new. It is perfect for the wife and I to do car camping. In the end I found an outfitter in the Netherlands who sold and mailed me a Kampa Brean Air 3. I was more than impressed by the quality and tech they have in tents made by companies like Vango, Kampa, and Outwell. Hey all! Listen, I like UL gear as much as the next, but last year I was looking for a new large family / car camping tent for comfort (and getting the wife out camping more), I was looking at ones like the REI Kingdom, and the Big Agnes Bunk House, etc, then I fell down a rabbit hole on YouTube when I learned about the style of tunnel tents that they have in the UK.
